Xiaomi Smart Band 9: Is it the budget fitness tracker you need?

Do you really need to spend a fortune to track your steps and sleep? I thought so too, which is what led me to the Xiaomi Smart Band 9. As such, it could prove to be the perfect option for many of us.

First Impressions

Well, first impressions. The packaging is simple, nothing flashy, which is commendable. Inside, the bracelet itself is surprisingly sturdy. It has a matte finish, and the Glacier Silver color I chose looks really nice. It doesn’t try too hard. The silicone strap is comfortable and overall lightweight. I was a little skeptical that something so inexpensive could seem so well made. The pill-shaped design is familiar to anyone who’s seen other Xiaomi straps, but there’s a noticeable refinement here. It’s not a radical change, but it feels more like a step up in quality than just a minor change.

Detailed Feature Analysis

The display is where this product really shines. Xiaomi has increased the brightness to 1,600 nits and the difference is obvious. I walked around in direct sunlight and the screen was perfectly readable. Auto-brightness is another great feature, and it dims perfectly in the evening. The screen size is the same as previous models, but the increased brightness and 60Hz refresh rate make the user interface smooth and responsive. Menu navigation is easy and the colors of the OLED panel are vibrant. I use it for notifications, health tracking, and music control, and it handles all of these functions with ease. The heart rate sensor has also improved and is much more accurate than similar trackers I’ve used before. It keeps up with my chest strap throughout my workout, which is impressive. The blood oxygen, stress and sleep monitoring are all useful additional features. The sleep tracking is pretty reliable this time around and allows me to be confident in the data collected. It divides sleep into light, deep and REM cycles, which is very useful for understanding your habits. The battery life is also excellent. I can easily use it for a week with all features turned on, and even longer if I don’t overdo it.

Practical Use

This little bracelet has become indispensable in my daily life. I use it to count my steps when I walk, to monitor my heart rate when I run, and to control my music when I’m doing chores around the house. I find the “Find My Phone” feature particularly useful. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve lost my cell phone and the strap has let me know. Seems like a small thing, but saves a lot of time and frustration. Also, if I’m in a meeting and can’t answer a call, the strap allows me to hang up, which is very convenient. The remote control of the camera is also useful for group shoots. It’s not something you use every day, but it’s available when you need it. These small and practical features make the Smart Band 9 a useful daily companion.

Disadvantages and Limitations

Yes, it’s not perfect; the lack of built-in GPS is perhaps its biggest drawback. If you want to track your distance very accurately during long runs, you still have to take your cell phone with you. This is a bit annoying, but understandable at this price point. Also, notifications come on your wrist, but you can’t reply to them from the wristband. This is a standard limitation for similar budget trackers, but it would have been nice to have; the NFC feature is great, but it’s a shame it only works in China. I was hoping for mobile payments on my wrist, but that’s not going to happen. Finally, the dial storage is a bit limited. You can only store 13 dials at a time, which is not suitable for those who want to change their look frequently. For me, these issues are not critical, but they are worth being aware of.

I have used several fitness trackers in the past, including those from Fitbit and Samsung. What makes this product stand out is its value. It offers a level of accuracy and functionality that rivals more expensive devices. The heart rate tracking is surprisingly good and rivals my Apple Watch in normal use. Battery life is also good, lasting longer than many competing products; Fitbit devices offer similar features but cost more. Samsung’s options are more feature-rich, but are more expensive and bulky. For those looking for a simple, reliable, and affordable fitness tracker, there’s nothing better than the Smart Band 9. It doesn’t try to be a smartwatch, it does what it does, and that’s what matters.

Conclusions and Recommendations

The Xiaomi Smart Band 9 is worth the price. Sure. If you’re upgrading from an older Mi Band or want a reliable fitness tracker without spending a fortune, this is a great option. The improved display, better heart rate sensor and longer battery life make it a very attractive option; the lack of GPS and limited notifications are minor drawbacks, but the overall value is undeniable. This is the perfect option for those who want to keep track of their health and fitness without spending a fortune. If you, like me, value simplicity, functionality and affordability, try the Smart Band 9. You’ll be surprised at how many features it has for its price. It’s not a smartwatch, but it’s a very good fitness bracelet.
