## iRobot Roomba s9+ vs. Dreame L40 Ultra: Detailed Comparison

Choosing the right robot vacuum cleaner can seem like a daunting task, especially with so many options available. Today, we’re going to compare two high-end contenders in detail: the iRobot Roomba s9+ and the Dreame L40 Ultra. Both promise top-notch cleaning, but they each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Let’s take a look at the features of each robot.

Cleaning Efficiency

Roomba s9+

Roomba s9+ is renowned for its exceptional deep carpet cleaning capabilities. The robot is designed to not only clean up the surface, but also to remove debris and dirt from deep within the carpet. In one of our tests, we were very impressed that it sucked up 96% of the sand trapped in the carpet. That’s a breakthrough for carpet users. The s9+ also boasts very powerful suction - 22 CFM on high power. Its D-shaped design and wide brush rollers allow it to suck up all edges and corners, which is ideal for thorough cleaning. However, it sometimes makes a “crunching” sound when trying to suck up large debris.

Dreame L40 Ultra

The Dreame L40 Ultra vacuum cleaner, on the other hand, provides excellent cleaning performance on both hard floors and carpets. Effectively removing dust, pet hair and debris, the L40 Ultra also features retractable side brushes and mops to thoroughly clean edges and corners. The cleaning system is truly revolutionary: two rotating nozzles automatically lift up when they make contact with the carpet. This means you can vacuum and mop at the same time, saving you time and effort. The nozzles are automatically cleaned and dried in the dock, so they are always fresh and ready for the next cleaning cycle. The vacuum does a good job with most dirt, but we did notice that hair can get tangled.

Roomba s9+

Roomba s9+ uses a smart mapping feature that allows it to clean room by room and maintain multiple floors. It uses cameras to map your home, which is generally efficient but not as accurate as a robot on wheels. It can be a little clumsy around obstacles and bumps into objects more often than other robots; the D-Shape is great for cleaning around the edges, but navigation can be a little fuzzy. However, it can move around furniture better than any of the round robots I’ve used.

Dreame L40 Ultra

The Dreame L40 Ultra utilizes a highly effective obstacle avoidance system that combines LiDAR, cameras, and sensors. This allows the user to navigate around furniture and other obstacles with amazing accuracy. The user-friendly app offers a wide range of customization options, including room management and cleaning scheduling. Overall, the system does an excellent job of getting around obstacles, although it may have difficulty with very small or low objects.

Self-Cleaning and Maintenance

Roomba s9+

One of the outstanding features of the Roomba s9+ is the self-cleaning bin (clean base). This is very convenient as it automatically empties after each cleaning. The upgraded filter is also a nice touch, and the bag lasts for about 30 cleanings, so you only need to change it once a month. However, having to change the bags adds to the long-term cost. The s9+ handles hair well with minimal tangling on the brush roll, but can get a little tangled in the shaft.

Dreame L40 Ultra

The Dreame L40 Ultra takes self-care to a new level with its self-cleaning docking station. This docking station automatically empties the waste container, washes and dries the mop head, and fills the water tank. This hands-free approach is incredibly convenient. The automatic rewash feature is only available in “Clean Genius” mode. The docking station is quite large and bulky, which can be a disadvantage for those with limited space. Also, the noise while cleaning the mop can be bothersome.

Price and Value

Roomba s9+

Roomba s9+ is a premium investment and is significantly more expensive than other robot vacuums. Although it provides exceptional carpet cleaning and convenient self-cleaning, the high price may be a deterrent for some. The need to replace bags also adds to the overall cost.

Dreame L40 Ultra

The Dreame L40 Ultra is another high-end robot vacuum cleaner, but it offers top-notch features and performance at a competitive price compared to other high-end models and offers excellent value for money. It still requires a significant investment, but its comprehensive self-cleaning features and high performance make it an attractive option.
